      \nAn\ninteresting hike through the old path that connects the village\nPrastos with the village Kastanitsa on the eastern side of Mt.\nParnonas. Those two villages are located in an area called Tsakonia.\nThis is an area of wild beauty that until recently was isolated.\nThat\u2019s the reason why the villages have maintained their\ntraditional style. The inhabitants still speak a peculiar dialect,\nTsakonika, which originates from the ancient Dorian dialect. The same\nroots have the inhabitants, the so called Tsakones (= From Tsakonia),\nthat originate from the ancients Spartans. People proud and\nindependent, abandoned the Spartan region many centuries ago and\nsettled in this wild place to preserve their independence from all\nsorts of conquerors. Kastanitsa is considered one of the most\nbeautiful traditional villages in Greece. There, one should not miss\nout on the delicious chestnut-based food served at the village\ntavern. In the highlights of of the hike is the crossing of the\nchestnut tree forest over Kastanitsa, which is especially magical\nduring Autumn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
