Homeland of the god Pan and lair of the nymphs, it is\nassociated with many ancient myths. In recent years, it became a\nrefuge but also a base for all sorts of insurgents with the most\nfamous being Theodoros Kolokotronis, the protagonist of the Greek\nrevolution against the Turks in 1821. Its dense forests, old bridges\nand picturesque villages make up a landscape ideal for hiking. The\npath from the village Elati to the village Vitina (which is part of a\nhuge trekking of 75 km (46 miles) named Mainalon Trail) is the most\nbeautiful on the mountain because it combines many elements.
