      \nIn Taygetos there are many well-preserved\ntrails that until recently connected the plain of Sparta with the\nmountain villages. Hiking on them is an excellent way of connecting\nwith the plethora of nature and cultural elements of Taygetos. One of\nthose trails is the one we offer with starting point being the\nvillage Parori near Mystras. The old path, wisely crafted, will lead\nus up smoothly to the abandoned monastery of Panagia Zagouna, built\nin a large hollow of the rock. We will continue through the verdant\nChrysolangado to the Faneromeni Monastery, the highest point of the\nroute. From there we will go down to Lagada’s stream. The last part\nof the hike is a spectacular trail that goes down the stream. The\npath, in several places, is carved on towering rocks. The view of the\nhillsides, the rich vegetation and the clear water make up an amazing\nlandscape. A small detour leads us to the cave church of Panagia\nLagadiotissa, filled with 14th century frescoes. The end of the hike\nis the village Parori, the place we departed from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
